Tile vs. Shingle vs. Metal: The Best Roof for Las Vegas Heat

Every roofing material can work in Las Vegas with the right installation. The question is which one fits your home, budget, and timeline. Here's the honest breakdown.

Tile — the local standard

Concrete and clay tile dominate Las Vegas for good reason: heat- and fire-resistant, attractive, and the tile lasts 50+ years. Just remember the underlayment beneath needs replacing roughly every 20 years. Best for: most valley homes, especially in HOA tile communities.

Metal — the longest life and a true cool roof

Metal lasts 40–70 years, resists fire and wind, and reflective finishes make it an excellent cool roof. Higher up-front cost, lowest long-term cost. Best for: homeowners keeping the house long-term who want a roof they'll never think about again.

Shingle — the affordable option

Heat-rated and cool-rated architectural shingles are the most affordable choice and last 20–30 years. Best for: budget-conscious replacements and steeper-pitched tract homes.

TPO & PVC membrane — for flat and low-slope roofs

Flat and low-slope sections need a continuous membrane, not tile or shingle. We install reflective single-ply TPO and PVC — highly reflective, heat-welded at the seams into a watertight surface, and an excellent cool roof. Best for: flat residential sections, additions, patios, and light commercial buildings.

You'll also hear about spray polyurethane foam (SPF) for flat roofs. It's a real system in the market, but it isn't one we install — we focus on membrane systems we can detail and warranty with confidence.
